Niamh McKenna

Niamh McKenna, born in Germany in 1991, is a German-Irish flutist currently holding the position of Principal Flute with the Turku Philharmonic Orchestra.  She has studied in Lübeck, Freiburg, Basel and Amsterdam with teachers such as Angela Firkins, Felix Renggli and Kersten McCall.  Currently enrolled at the Sibelius Academy in the class of Petri Alanko,  she won the 1st prize in the 2017 International Crusell Flute Competition.
Niamh has played in the Basel, Freiburg, and Lübeck symphony orchestras, as well as the Concertgebouw Chamber Orchestra.  She regularly plays with the Finnish Radio Orchestra, Tapiola Sinfonietta, Helsinki Philharmonic and the Finnish National Opera.
Niamh has performed as soloist with conductors such as Leif Segerstam, Risto Joost, Jan Söderblom and Janne Nisonen. As a sought after chamber musician she has played in numerous festivals, including the Kuhmo, Crusell, Luosto, and KuruFest in Finland, and the Schiermonnikoog festival in the Netherlands.
